Frequently asked questions
Is this Image Compressor free to use?
Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up or usage limits.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API — your image is never uploaded anywhere.
Why does PNG not get much smaller?
PNG is a lossless format, so there's no quality slider to trade off for size the way JPEG and WebP have. To shrink a photo significantly, choose JPEG or WebP as the output format instead — PNG is best kept for graphics with transparency or flat colors.
What's the difference between JPEG and WebP output?
WebP generally produces smaller files than JPEG at the same visual quality and supports transparency, but is a newer format — JPEG has universal compatibility. Try both and compare the resulting file size.
What's the largest image I can compress here?
Up to 15MB. Larger files are rejected to keep the browser tab responsive.
